The detectives had a couple of quick questions for Kevin

The detectives dropped in on Missy's neighbor to ask a few follow-up questions.

Tuesday, March 6, 2001 – 1:00 p.m.

Kevin Travers was the victim's neighbor and friend.

Detectives Armstrong and Murphy re-interviewed him at his residence.

The interview was recorded with the witness's knowledge and consent.

Participants:

  • Detective T. Armstrong
  • Detective S. Murphy
  • Kevin Travers

Detective Murphy: Sorry to barge in on you like this, but we were in the neighborhood and thought about dropping in.

Kevin Travers: That's OK. I just finished some developing and was taking a little break.

Detective Murphy: This won't be long, just a question or two. Can you state your name and address again?

Kevin Travers: I'm Kevin Travers, and I live at 110 Hickory Street in Oxford, Mississippi.

Detective Murphy: A couple of basic questions for you. Are you right or left-handed?

Kevin Travers: Right.

Detective Murphy: How tall are you?

Kevin Travers: I'm about 5'9".

Detective Murphy: How much do you weigh?

Kevin Travers: I weigh about 165.

Detective Murphy: OK. Do you know Steve Kirby?

Kevin Travers: Sure. At one time, I thought about starting a website to promote my photography, and I talked to him about it.

Detective Armstrong: What happened with it?

Kevin Travers: Nada. It was going to be too much money. I couldn't afford it.

Detective Murphy: Do you know anything about him and Missy?

Kevin Travers: I've heard that they dated in high school, but that's about the extent of things.

Detective Murphy: Have you ever seen him over at Missy's house?

Kevin Travers: No, not that I recall.

Detective Armstrong: You're sure about that? You seem pretty intimately aware of what went on over there.

Kevin Travers: I really don't remember ever noticing him there.

Detective Murphy: But you noticed JP and other people.

Detective Armstrong: Yeah, we were getting the impression that you spent all your time just gazing over there.

Kevin Travers: Are we starting this again? Look, I never stared at Missy or her house. I never sat around watching the place. JP was so freaking loud that it was impossible not to know when he was there. But that's it.

Detective Murphy: So you only noticed Missy having company when there was a fight or something loud going on?

Kevin Travers: Yeah. Why would I notice otherwise?

Detective Armstrong: I told you. Just seemed like you spent a lot of time scoping the place out.

Kevin Travers: And I told you that you were wrong. Can we move on now?

Detective Murphy: Actually, I think that's about all we had. Thanks for your time. We'll be in touch if we need anything else.

End interview – 1:16 p.m.
